Soft Innovation Prize 2020

The European Commission revealed the winners of the 2020 edition of the SOFT Innovation Prize. This prize, awarded at the 31st Symposium on Fusion Technology (SOFT2020), gives recognition to outstanding researchers or industries who have found innovative ideas or proposed new solutions in fusion research.
This year’s winners of the SOFT Innovation Prize are:
1. First prize - Dr. Fabio Di Fonzo, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT), for the development of Ductile Amorphous Ceramics for Extreme Environments.
2. Second prize - Dr. Pavel Vladimirov, Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT), for the development of advanced solid neutron multiplier in support of innovative tritium-breeding blanket design.
3. Third prize - Dr. Alexander von Müller, Max-Planck-Institut für Plasmaphysik (IPP), for the development of tungsten fibre-reinforced copper as advanced heat sink material for high heat flux applications.
